Summary

As we go through this summary I shall not quote scriptures, but rather refer back to the relevant sections where we have already seen the particular topics mentioned.

Firstly, it is recorded throughout the Bible that baptism is a necessary part of our salvation, and part of the foundation that we should build our life and eternal hope on. Baptism is seen in the Bible as the entry point to becoming a Christian, in a similar way to circumcision being the entry point to God’s people under the Old Covenant. {29} {58} {59} {60} {61} {62} {68} {71} {72} {73} {74} {75} {87} {88} {90}

One major component that needs to be present at baptism is repentance from sin and previous sinful ways of living. This is not just a one-time act, but is to continue on and change the ways and life of the believer. {1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {8} {18} {19} {30} {32} {33} {56} {57} {67} {68} {73} {74} {75} {78} {90} {91}

As we have seen throughout this study on baptism, one of the major benefits of baptism is to receive remission for sin. We no longer have the liability to pay the price of our sins, as Jesus has paid the price on our behalf. {8} {18} {29} {30} {45} {56} {57} {68} {76}

Almost from the very start, it has also become obvious that baptism is to be performed by complete immersion in water, identifying us with the death and burial of our saviour Jesus. {2} {4} {7} {9} {14} {15} {19} {27} {33} {41} {44} {56} {62} {64} {74} {75} {76} {77} {78} {79} {84} {87} {90} {91}

Perhaps the most controversial discovery for large parts of the church today is the fact that every time we have evidence of the name used in actual baptisms, it was not a mere repetition of the titles that Jesus gave. The actual name used was “the name of Jesus” (sometimes along with the titles “Lord” and “Christ”) for each and every time that we have evidence. See also the next two sections which list those baptised into the titles of “Father Son and Holy Spirit”, and those baptised and baptising in the name of Jesus, including those that were the witnesses. {56} {57} {58} {59} {60} {64} {65} {66} {67} {68} {73} {74} {75} {76} {77} {86}

Part of the baptism experience must also include receiving the Holy Spirit – first seen from the day of Pentecost as speaking in new unknown and unlearnt tongues, and promised to every believer. {4} {6} {7} {8} {20} {33} {47} {54} {56} {57} {60} {63} {64} {65} {66} {67} {73} {74} {75} {85}
