Acts 8v13

Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

This Simon was a sorcerer that had been leading the people of Samaria astray (Acts 8v9-11), even making them think that he was “the great power of God” (Acts 8v10). In the previous section (Acts 8v12 {58}) we saw that Philip had lead the people back to Jesus Christ, and the effect was such that even Simon – a ‘worker of iniquity’ – was baptised.

We can also see from this verse that after he was baptised, Simon stayed with Philip to study, being in awe of the signs and wonders performed by him. No doubt these were quite different from his own former sorceries, being more powerful and varied. The miracles and signs had the effect of drawing Simon’s attention, and he desired to study and find out more. This was the indicator of something that would come to full fruit in verses 18-19, as discussed in the next section {60}.
