John 10v40 |
And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. |

Many times the Jewish authorities sought to take Jesus and kill Him. This particular time they wanted to stone Him (John 10v31) but He “escaped out of their hand” (John 10v39) – clearly there was something miraculous about His many escapes from death threats and attempts on His life.
Jesus then went to this place that seems to be especially protected by God – the place where John first baptised. The place of the preaching and the living quarters were in the wilderness beyond the Jordan, and the actual baptisms were performed in the river Jordan (See also Mark 1v4-5 {18} {19})
While He was here, many people believed in Jesus and His message, and realised that all of the things John the Baptist had said about Him were true (v41-42).
