Mark 8v28

And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

This verse is in response to the question of Jesus in verse 27: “Whom do men say that I am?” This is similar to the passage already seen in Matthew 16v13-14 {12}.

Jesus once again is shown here as having a ministry that is an amalgamation of all the prophets that have gone before Him. The confusion in the mind of the people was ultimately due to the fact that Jesus was the embodiment of all that the prophets had been looking for and were pointing towards. As Jesus himself said in Matthew 5v17-18 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Jesus fulfilled for us those things that we could not fulfil ourselves. Is it any wonder then that we partake of this through faith in Jesus, and His baptism?
